Vision
Our vision is to develop a community of leaders to strengthen America.
Mission
ALA provides a unique and intimate venue through which successful leaders share their experiences and inspire the values, skills, habits and discipline needed to lead America.
Philosophy
The American college experience is arguably the best academic preparation in the world. However, the teaching of the values of service, citizenship, and free enterprise has become increasingly rare. Practical leadership training, too, is essentially unavailable at universities. These skills and values are vital to the success of individuals, to our nation, and to the principles of free government and free enterprise.
As future leaders, college men and women need and deserve programs that supplement the academic experience. A successful program should teach students values and practical skills. It should encourage them to define their dreams. The program should challenge them to set more difficult goals. It should inform them of their responsibilities. The programs also should provide access to people who have incorporated these skills and values successfully into their own lives.
The American Leadership Academy has been established to provide these opportunities.
Implementation
The ALA puts seasoned, accomplished leaders together with undergraduates for a week of presentations, workshops, and small-group discussions. Our goal is to give students a vision of what they could become, as well as the tools to achieve their goals. We challenge them to push beyond what they previously thought was possible, to define their goals, and to create actionable plans to achieve them.
Our graduates leave the week with clearer values and goals, greater confidence in pursuing leadership positions, and with several new mentor contacts to help them succeed. Our speakers also benefit from these interactions by sharing their wisdom and by learning more about the challenges of the younger generation.
The ALA programs take place over several weeks a year in a spectacular beachfront retreat in Los Cabos, BCS, Mexico. Smaller regional events are held over a day or two in locations throughout the U.S.
