A Note to Parents

Dear Parents,

A university education is an important but insufficient preparation for success in one’s career and in life. The ALA helps college students “get from here to there” by teaching the proper mindset, values, and skills for real-world success.

Hundreds of our graduates have written me to share that the ALA program was the most important influence in their achieving success.  They say it helped them prepare for the interview and get the job.  But more importantly, ALA influenced them to discover their passion and then excel in the chosen endeavor.

Our seminars will provide some of the most valuable life experiences your son will have in college. The words “life changing” are used repeatedly by students who attended. Our graduates are taking the lead in their chosen career paths. To read some of their testimonials please click HERE.

During ALA seminars, your son will hear from successful and dynamic leaders in business, law, science & technology, public service, sports, and education. These are not lecturers; these are men and women who have built successful organizations and teams. They are respected for their knowledge and achievements. A list of a few of our faculty is HERE, with links to brief bios.

Our curriculum includes development of an attitude of personal and business conduct, leadership based on ethical decision-making that builds trust, long-term career vision, community service, patriotism, and free-enterprise. These qualities are essential to employers and vital to the future success of our nation.

Speakers take time after their presentations to talk personally with the students. When has your son had the opportunity to sit down to lunch with the former CEO of Caterpillar, a co- founder of Ticketmaster, a Mayo Clinic surgeon, a former Deputy Attorney General of the U.S., or other top leaders in the fields of engineering, finance, or high tech? He will have that opportunity during his ALA program week.

ALA selects speakers not only on their accomplishments, but also on the commitment they make to interact with our students, listen and respond to their questions, and provide feedback based on their knowledge and experience. There is no other program quite like it.

As you consider the expense to send your son to this program, please consider the role it will play in his future. Our workshops will expose him to a wealth of experience and wisdom; they are an opportunity to open up his mind, and doors to his future.

His only costs to the ALA are his airfare and registration fee. Dozens of donors underwrite the $500,000 budget that provides a free hotel accommodation, three good meals a day, program materials, and ground transportation. These donors “invest” in your son, believing that he and his college generation are the future of America, and that they will need the best possible tools to address the challenges they will face.

The ALA is an incredible bargain and a terrific investment in your son’s education.  As the four-year cost of a college education nears $100,000, I believe an “investment” of $500-$1,000 to offer him the vision, attitude, and ethics essential to become an effective leader is a good one. I hope you will agree.
